PHILIPPINE UNITED LOSE UNBEATEN RUN BUT ONLY ON A PENALTY SHOOT OUT
Yes, Philippine United at long last have been beaten, but only on penalties which means we are still unbeaten in open play. We lost in a very exciting cup game to Maple Cross who, we beat in the first game of the season 3-2.
Unlike last week if you recall me telling you all how bad we were and still won. This week we played brilliant and lost in the worst way possible. We had the game won 3 times. First we were ten minutes away from victory, leading 0-2, with goals from an own goal, and Jason “the Beast” Arroyo and then we let them back into the game late on, to draw 2-2 in full time.
Then we again took the lead in extra time through Anielo Mone and we were cruising to victory again and then in the last twenty seconds of time a shocking blunder in defence led to another equalizer, so we had to go to penalties.
Again we took the lead, but then Richie Caparros missed to tie 4-4 so then it was sudden death, in which they scored and Jason Arroyo kicked over the crossbar. Well! fellow fans, it had to happen some time, but it was good while it lasted, but remember we have not lost in open play and we have not lost also in the league which is our main priority.
We played so well that it is hard to swallow losing and playing so well. In fact, so well that the Man of the Match could have been any one from 8 players. Renee Banao just pipped Jason Arroyo for the best player.
Well lets hope we can get back to winning ways next week, so look in for my next issue.
Yours in football,
Norm Parkin
