PHILIPPINE UNITED KNOCKOUT LAST YEAR’S CHAMPIONS IN THE 1ST ROUND OF THE HERDFORDSHIRE CUP

We played away from home, but managed a great victory, winning 1-4. The 1st half was very tight, with us just edging better in the possession stakes.
For the first time this season we went behind, from a 25 yard effort. Only a short while after, Jerriel Cajigas, collected the ball, left his marker, and sent a crashing shot, from 20 yards, at an acute angle, giving their keeper no chance.

It stayed 1 – 1 at half time. As usual, the opposition were a big team, and pumping high balls in the first half just didn’t penetrate their back line, so I changed the tactics, after the break, keeping the ball down, and it was like a different game as we took them apart for the whole of the 2nd half, with other goals coming from Raymond Tordecilla and 2 more from top scorer Aniello Mone. Again there were fine performances from Eddie Guevarra, Renee Banao, Aniello Mone, Renan Ramos, Raymond Tordecilla, but the Man of the Match went to new guy Garey Reyes, who filled in for Jeffrey Burgin and had a great game at Centre back, partnering “Mr.Reliable”, Renee Banao.

As all you Philippine United fans can see, we are really going places, and believe me guys, the reason why Mr. Mari Martinez, Leo Jensen, Steve Conroy and myself put this team together, was to bring a better standard to the Philippine National team and as you can see, it is already paying off. The main thing is that my guys are born with that English football passion, and unfortunately the players born in the Philippines do not.

Well, let’s hope that we keep winning, and hopefully soon we will see some of them in the national team of which I am certain will happen.

Keep the faith,
Norm Parkin
